While in Maseno University, he was Andrew Mbugua, a very bright BioMedical Sciences student. But now 'she' is Audrey Mbugua. He changed his gender from male to female and wants to be recognised as a 'she'. She is now a transgender activist and she has won the battle 'she' took to court with the Kenya National Examinations Council.
KNEC has now been ordered to mend Andrew’s certificate to Audrey Mbugua and not to include the gender section in the certificate.
This means that Audrey’s certificate will be totally unique from those held by other Kenyans. Audrey wanted this to be so because 'she' feels more female than male. The court appears to favour Audrey’s need for recognition as a female Kenyan even though ‘she’ was naturally born male. Hope Maseno University also agrees to the directive.
