There were concerns from Kenyans online that the Head of State slapped a man who struggled to
shake his hand as he jetted home from icc. The drama took place at Machakos Country Bus Station and the man who is alleged to have been slapped by the President is Bernard Njoroge, who is the Chairman of touts at the famous bus station.
But Njoroge has come out to rubbish rumours that Uhuru Kenyatta slapped him and accused the media for misreporting the whole saga. “I was disturbed and surprised by claims by the media that the President had slapped me.” He said. Njoroge further added that when he tried to greet the President, his security team pushed him away and the commotion caught the President’s eye upon which he instructed them saying, “Wacheni akuje, nyinyi hamjui watu wangu wa zamani.”
He claims to have known the President back when he was in KANU and helped him to campaign around Nairobi and its environs. “So, when he saw me being manhandled, he called me by name and ordered that I be allowed to shake his hand. His personal secretary, Jomo Gecaga, ensured that I shook the President’s hand.” Njoroge added. That tells you how humble Uhuru Kenyatta is if at all he can remember an ordinary matatu conductor.
