Why Do Men Get Erections In The Morning?
It’s an amusing, albeit often highly inconvenient, phenomenon that half of the world’s population has to deal with on a regular basis. So what's the science story behind that morning glory? Let’s find out.

Morning glories, or nocturnal penile tumescence (NPT) as they are correctly called, are spontaneous erections that occur during sleep or while waking up. All blokes without erectile dysfunction are graced with them and they normally occur around three to five times during sleep.

NPT actually starts in utero, or in the womb (seriously), and continues throughout life. If it’s any consolation, men aren’t completely alone—women also get clitoral erections and vaginal engorgement during sleep, and various nonhuman mammals also get NPT.

While a few different theories have been proposed over the years to explain NPT, what causes it still remains uncertain. NPT, just like clitoral erections, is associated with REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. One idea is that during REM sleep, noradrenergic cells (neurons that release the neurotransmitter noradrenaline [norepinephrine]) located in an area of the pons (part of the brainstem) called the locus coeruleus are switched off. It is thought that these cells are associated with the inhibitory tone of the penis; therefore, when their activity is reduced during REM sleep, testosterone-dependent excitatory tones can be expressed which result in an erection.

Experts wondered the same thing. Last year, Gayle Brewer of the University of Central Lancashire and Colin Hendrie of the University of Leeds published their research on the topic - technically known as “copulatory vocalization”

In the Archives of Sexual Behavior. In the study, they asked 71 sexually active heterosexual women between ages 18 and 48 for more details about vocalization during sex.

The researchers found that many of the women did make noise, but not necessarily while they were having an orgasm. Instead, 66% said that they moaned to speed up their partner’s climax, and 87% stated that they vocalized during sex to boost his self-esteem.
Are female orgasms really just a 'bonus'?

“While female orgasms were most commonly experienced during foreplay, copulatory vocalizations were reported to be made most often before and simultaneously with male ejaculation,” write the researchers. Women also reported making noise to relieve boredom, fatigue and pain/discomfort during sex.

So is female vocalization during sex just a performance for a guy’s benefit? (After all, Meg Ryan’s over-the-top moans were meant to prove a point to “Harry” that men are easily duped by a fake orgasm.)

“There isn’t a lot of research in this area,” says Kristen Mark, a sexuality researcher at Indiana University, “but we’re bombarded with images through mainstream media that tell us moaning is associated with orgasm and sexual pleasure. So it would be a fairly wise faking strategy to moan since men already tend to associate moaning with orgasm.”
Of course, there’s nothing smart about faking it.

“Congratulations for being a great mum!” I have heard this a few times and it always makes me feel uncomfortable. Being a good parent — whatever we think that entails – is our job, right? Why should we be congratulated for what we are supposed to be doing in the first place?

Unfortunately, the bar has been set pretty low when it comes to parenting. I know someone who tossed out his teenage son and daughter.

He has no idea where they are, what they eat, or where they live. It’s been more than a year. He doesn’t pay their school fees.

His wife is by his side, and just as bad as he is. Concern for her latest manicure is more important than sending her son Sh500 for food.

But her husband stands on the national stage and gives lectures about good governance. He speaks out about corruption. He wants Kenya to be a better place.

“Congratulations for fighting for the common man,” he is told all the time.

Fighting for the common man but leaving his kids destitute? Right. That’s a hero right there.

In an interview with KTN at his home in Karen, Raila revealed how he received the sad news of the passing away of his son, saying he got it from his wife, Ida, who received a call from her daughter, Rosemary, in Kisumu informing her of the same after being told by Fidel’s wife Lwam - Raila was coming from the gym by then and was still in his gym gear.

Immediately, Raila and his wife jumped into the car and drove themselves to Fidel's house where they found paramedics trying to resuscitate him in vain.

The former PM noted that he tried to reach out to his friends, out of desperation, to broach the sad news but they ‘betrayed’ him, being a Sunday, many had switched off their phones.

He said he tried calling his elder brother, Oburu, but his phone was not going through. He tried Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetangula and James Orengo among other close friends and relatives but their phones were switched off.

Raila noted that the only person who answered his call after his close friends refused was his sister-in-law who was shocked by the devastating news.

This woman is a nuisance who can’t go anywhere or do anything without the company of her man. She’ll adopt your interests, calls 20 times a day and fly off the handle anytime she’s not around to monitor your behavior. This type of woman will smother any chance of you missing her by insisting that you spend every waking moment with her, refusing to let you go out with the boys or spend any significant amount of time with anyone else.

This woman has a great physique, great personality and her toes are pretty too! The Gold-Digger will compliment you on your expensive watch, ask you what kind of car you drive, what you do for a living, where you live and so on. Like the high maintenance woman, the Gold Digger is basically looking for a sugar daddy, she’ll size you up within the first five minutes and drop you just as quickly if your cash flow runs out and you can’t take her shopping anymore. These types of women will just suck your wallet dry and leave you emasculated. Fortunately,you can usually see this type coming from a mile away. She wants to write out the names of all her designer items and post it on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

9. The Club Girl

Club girls are nothing more than fantasy women who have been practically living in bars and clubs since they hit the legal drinking age. They have beautiful faces with full lips, big doe eyes, great legs, and all the curves you could ever ask for. The problem in dating these women is that they love to wear clothes that show off their great assets not just to you, but to every Tom, man-hood and Harry on the street. A woman like this may be carefree and wild; however, once you take a closer look, you’ll realize that her entire life is a party and most nights will end with her puking in your car. Or waking up hungover, in some guy’s bed in the morning.

10. The Feminist

This type of woman can never be pleased by a man and she believes that men are the cause of all the pains and suffering of society. It is her strong belief that women are much more intelligent than men and are capable of doing things “the right way”. You don’t want to waste any time with this type of woman because anything that you do will always be negative to her.
