The former Mvita MP and now the cabinet secretary of mining in the jubillee government has lost his mother Rahma bint Saleh, died in her sleep on Wednesday.
Saleh died at age 82 at her home in Kizingo estate, Mombasa.
Balala, who is ill, landed in Mombasa at around 11am. He thanked family and friends for their support.
Many gathered at the Kizingo residence to condole with him and his family.
They described Saleh as a strong woman for raising all her children after the death of her husband.

“She lived a healthy life and was a strong mother of all her children,” said Nyali politician Yasir Noor.
Balala's close ally Ibrahim Khamis Babangida said Saleh lived her full life.
His former personal assistant and close friend Ben Furaha noted that Saleh's death is a big loss to the family.
Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir said his predecessor has a strong personality and urged residents to support him as he grieves.

Saleh's burial will take place at Kikowani cemetery at around 1pm today
The cortege will leave Kizingo at 9am on Thursday for 11am prayers at Shibu Mosque, Mwembe Tayari.
