As the Kenyan Government continues to starve the Al Shabaab militia by closing over 100 hawalas in Kenya, details have emerged that Qatar based TV, Al Jazeera, is among foreign based media stations that are busy supporting activities of the Somalia based militant group.
Following the massacre of 147 students in Garissa University College, the Government of Kenya closed all Somali owned hawalas saying they were the ones used by foreign companies to transfer money to terrorists. Immediately after the terror attack, Al Jazeera published an article indicating why the Mujahideens struck the university and butchered 147 students like rats.
The article titled Why Al-Shabab has gained foothold in Kenya by Mohammed Addow, indicated that the terror group attacked the university due to decade old marginalistion of northern Kenya by previous Governments. The writer, who is an Al Jazeera correspondent, said North-Eastern Kenya - as well as parts of the Coastal region - lack basic services such as paved roads, schools and hospitals unlike other parts of Kenyans.
He said chronic youth unemployment, for example, is a big problem and this makes Al Shabaab promise radicalised youths some income that is attractive. He also said the killings of Sheikhs by by Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) in Mombasa and Nairobi are some of the issues that are causing Al Shabaab to kill Christians (Kafirs).
